My apologies for answering this note so late. I have been very slack and not looked at this site for a long time. The pattern is called maru Bishamon Bishamon is one of the seven gods of good fortune and the patron god of doctors, priests and soldiers. The pattern appears on Bishamon's armor and helmet. The pattern is a variation of the tortoise shell motif. There are 3 variations of the Bishamon motif.
