The Lily Pond

Description

Size: 54 x 54" (137 x 137cm)
Wallhanging.

The Mariners Compass block would have to be my favorite.
Inspirations came from Judy Mathieson's 'New Directions' book, the queen of all Mariners Compass blocks.
However, the blocks and quilt were designed and drafted by me.

The compass blocks are constructed with paper foundation (the only way to do them accurately) and appliquéd onto the background cloth. The pointy triangles (leaves) were also appliquéd. The rope embellishment was free machine stitched onto the background cloth and the narrow border is Seminole.
The quilting is free machine quilting with a double machine embroidery thread (to get a thicker line) and the quilt is also embellished with seed beads.
Please view detail shots for closer inspection.
The backing was hand dyed to represent a dried up Lily Pond suffering from blue green algae and salination.
(A bit of an artistic statement there, but who looks at the back of the quilt when its hanging on the wall?)

Pattern available. Please email me for details.
